Relationships… They’re all around us. They come in all forms. What does your family look like? We have a “core” family, we have an “extended” family, we have a non “blood relation” family. As a youngster, I was not real impressed with my siblings. As I grew older, they became more and more important to me. I remember thinking somewhere in my 30′s that family is the one group of folk who will always be there and always love me (if it is indeed possible for anyone to love me). I believe that there are many who form families from those that are not blood relations and, I suspect that much the same is true about the bonds formed in these instances. But, I, fortunate of all fortunates have four siblings whom I have come to appreciate with an intensity that’s beyond my ability to express in mere words. My three sisters and I gather once a year to have a ‘sister’s sleep-over’ and– da di di daaa– today’s the day! I attempt to not feel guilty that my one and only brother is not included in the same way that the girls are, yet, he doesn’t seem to mind.
My Sister, My Home is a story of Lillian and Dorothy Gish. It comes from a book named “Always Sisters” by Alda Ellis. It also includes stories of Laura & Mary Ingalls, Emily & Lavinia Dickinson, Jane & Cassandra Austen and Marie Curie & Bronya Duska. I highly recommend this book about sisterly bonds…
